KODIAK CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

A Word From Our Principal...

Kodiak Christian School was founded in 1976 to provide a Christ-centered educational program for academic, social, and spiritual growth. Our classes, preschool through 8th grade, and curricula are structured and taught with a Christian world view. We strive to look at all subjects and experiences using the Bible as our lens, focusing on the fact that all truth is God's Truth.

God has given all parents the responsibility of raising and educating their children. In our increasingly complex world, this can be almost overwhelming, unless we have help from others. Over the course of history, parents relied on the church as the source of academic, as well as religious, instruction. Today, many private schools exist to continue this tradition of providing intellectual, physical, and spiritual training.

Even though we follow in this tradition, we do not perceive our institution to be "just" a school. Kodiak Christian School is an extension of the families and the Christian churches in our community. We know that children's parents are their first and most important teachers. We also understand that the world we live in does not always permit parents to have the time, the structure, or the ability to be the sole instructors of their children.

There is, fortunately, an option available that provides integration of parents, churches, and educators. KCS is one such example. Our school board is comprised of elected parents and church leaders. Parents are encouraged to become active volunteers in the classrooms and/or with Parent-Teacher Fellowship (PTF) committees. We solicit the assistance of many local church leaders as speakers for our weekly Chapel services, and as resources for developing programs and guiding staff members. It is this partnership between parents, community churches, and staff that allows KCS to achieve results in preparing our students for future academic and life success.

At Kodiak Christian School, we focus on developing Christian characteristics in each child while addressing his/her academic, physical, emotional, social, and citizenship needs. Our talented, trained, Christian teachers set high expectations in scholastic subjects and in behavior for student achievement. Rules and programs are established to support teacher expectations, and as a result, students do achieve. All students in first through eighth grades take the Stanford Achievement Tests each year, with most students scoring one or more years above their public school counterparts.

Yet academics are only one area of concern for our staff. Each teacher strives to set goals and provide opportunities for every child to develop his or her God-given potential in all areas of growth. Our staff recognizes and seriously undertakes our role as the extension of the home and the church. Teachers genuinely love, care for, and encourage every student.

Students have opportunities to explore and develop in the arts, sports, and technology use, in addition to traditional subjects. Field trips, classroom guests, and special activities provide other avenues of learning and growth, We create educational experiences for the whole child, with support, love, and encouragement. The goal in this well-rounded approach is to shape maturing Christians who can function responsibly and successfully in our economically global world, yet retain the inner peace and comfort of a personal relationship with our Lord.
